Quad Day - Voter Registration

Quad Day is coming! 40,000 students move into Champaign-Urbana in August. Help us register a fraction of them to ensure the Blue Wave hits Champaign County.

Last year we registered 1,000 students, our goal this year is 3,000 voter registrations completed. Yes, that is a very, very high goal but with enough volunteers, we can do it.

Sign up to volunteer for Quad Day voter registration.

Learn to Canvass

  • Champaign Public Library, Robeson Pavilion (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The People's Agenda is targeting precincts across our county to register voters, and we need your help. Join us to learn how to engage voters through canvassing as part of our Adopt-A-Precinct program. We'll cover the basics of canvassing and role-play different scenarios you might encounter talking with voters.

If you attended the Blue Wave training in June this is continuation of that. If you are interested in canvassing in general, that’s great but this training is specifically for the Adopt-A-Precinct program.

The 8/18 and 8/23 trainings will be the same. You need only attend one of these sessions.

Please sign up to let us know how you'd like to be involved with Adopt-A-Precinct.

Building the Blue Wave (RESCHEDULED)

We know there can be a Blue Wave in November, but we know these things don't happen on their own. We'll dive into the work we need to do before the election in November.

Things we'll cover:

What makes a winning campaign? What makes a campaign?! Have you heard campaign people talking in a bunch of jargon? What does it mean?! We'll do a crash course in Campaigning 101 so you can be an informed and well-equipped volunteer. You will have a better understanding of why a campaign is doing what it's doing.

Voter Protection - election integrity is always a concern but this year more than ever with a potential wave of democratic voters we need to be prepared and educated to ensure the elections in Champaign County follow the law and no one is disenfranchised. There are over 100 polling locations in Champaign County, that's a lot of ground to cover on Election Day, not to mention when early voting is open!

Voter Registration - we'll be rolling out a huge voter registration plan to get us through Election Day and make sure we capture as many progressive voters as possible.

We will review the seats on the November ballot so you know what you'll be voting on.

Get started working! There is plenty to do and not enough time to do it all.

See Building the Blue Wave facebook event.

Fair Tax Townhall

  • Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Did you know Illinois is one of the only states that still use a flat tax system? This disadvantages us in how we are able to fund essential programs and industries, ultimately making it harder for Illinois as a state to provide for ALL residents.

But we have an opportunity to change this! This May, the Illinois legislature will be voting on whether or not to give residents the opportunity in November to vote on the General Election ballot to amend the Illinois Constitution to implement a fair tax structure.

This month, The People's Agenda will be partnering with the Responsible Budget Coalition to host an informational townhall dedicated to explaining what that system would look like on the ground-level in industries such as education and healthcare, and what we can do as community members to encourage our elected officials to support fair tax legislation. This event will offer many opportunities to get further involved in promoting a fair tax in Illinois, so please make sure you come prepared to learn and participate!

Join us for this townhall next Sunday, April 15 from 2-4 pm at the Independent Media Center, located at 202 S. Broadway Ave in Urbana. For more information and to RSVP, please visit the event's Facebook page

We hope to see you there!

Flyer the Quad

Flyer the Quad

We ordered 5,000 flyers, yes - 5,000. Now we need you to help get them into the hands of students to make sure they know what their voting options are.

It's quick, it's easy, and most importantly - it's effective! We have an info flyer, you hand it to the students, tell them in the Union where to go vote, they vote. Boom - done.

This is an outdoors, on your feet activity on the UIUC Quad, so please plan accordingly.

P.S. We will be working out of the Ebel table. This DOES NOT mean you have to hand out Ebel lit. You don't have to hand out any campaign specific literature. The flyer we made has no candidate names, just voting info. Kyle and the Ebel Campaign are just gracious and allowing us to use their table.

Sign up to flyer the quad.

Textbank the students and GOTV

We have phone numbers for over 1,000 students that we registered to vote on Quad Day - this is wonderful! But now we need your help to text or phone bank them to make sure they know about early voting on campus the week of March 13th.

Script, instructions, training all provided - we just need you and your phone. Please help us out and do a shift!

There is free, close parking to the McKinley Foundation.

P.S. The current County Clerk estimates less than 200 students will vote on campus for this entire election. Contacting these 1,000 students will go a long way to making sure they are taken seriously as voters in Champaign County.

Sign up for texbanking.
